Bereavement Ministry

If you have ever had the experience of suffering the loss of a family member or other loved one, you know first-hand what the experience is of having to plan for an appropriate way to remember the deceased.  One of the corporal works of mercy is to bury the dead (cf. MT 25:34) and the Christian community takes seriously its duty and obligation to the bereaved.

The function of the Bereavement team is to help the bereaved in many of the aspects of preparing themselves and their loved ones for the Funeral and Burial Rites.  Team members  help families plan the wake and funeral rites, facilitate an after-funeral reception, and arrange for the services of lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Altar Servers, and Music.  Please contact the parish office at 924-7104 to arrange for a meeting with Bereavement Team members.

Anyone wishing to join the volunteer team to help plan funeral rites and  post-funeral receptions, please call the office.

About Us

We are the Parishes in the Maine Highlands area.  Officially, we are known as Cluster 7 in the Diocese of Portland, which encompasses the towns of Dover-Foxcroft, Sangerville, Milo, Dexter, and Pittsfield.

What we do is follow Jesus to help do God's work in the world and in our area.  As we continue to evolve according to the plan laid out by the Diocese, it's important to keep in mind what Bishop Malone had to say about what a parish is:

● A parish is where there exists a community of the faithful of sufficient size, capable of supporting and participating in the central, most important action of the Church - namely, its celebration of the Sunday Eucharist.

●  A parish happens wherever the Church's sacraments and devotional practices are carried out.

●  A parish is where there is a sufficient number of members available to carry on the parish's various ministries:

- faith formation at all age levels, but particularly at the adult level;
- evangelization outreach to its inactive members and to the unchurched of its area, helping them find  a way to come home or belong to the parish;
- justice and charity ministries to serve those for whom God has a special love; and
- other ministries; among them a ministry to foster vocations to serve the church in leadership positions.

Join us in making our Parishes and Missions vibrant, faith-filled communities that help make a difference!  Everyone has talents to offer, and we look forward to seeing you at Mass!

Mission Statement

We, the people of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, proclaim our belief in the message and mission of Jesus Christ as a parish which is united through the Bishop of Portland with the Catholic Church throughout the world.

As a stewardship parish, we seek to live out that belief as a community of worship, of shared faith, and of service where each member shares with others the gifts and talents they have received from God.  We are committed to continuing the development of our faith community in our towns of service.
